Service Description

A complete diagnostic ultrasound of the female pelvic organs using both transabdominal and transvaginal imaging. The examination evaluates the uterus, endometrium, ovaries, adnexal regions, and surrounding pelvic structures for fibroids, cysts, abnormal bleeding, pelvic fullness, chronic pelvic symptoms, or other nonurgent abnormalities. The transabdominal portion is performed externally over the lower abdomen and generally requires a full bladder. The transvaginal portion is then performed with an internal ultrasound probe after the bladder is emptied to provide more detailed imaging of the pelvic organs. This service is performed by a qualified female sonographer. Patients may decline or stop the transvaginal portion at any time, although doing so may limit the completeness of the examination. This examination is intended for nonemergency concerns. Severe or sudden pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, pregnancy-related pain or bleeding, or concern for ovarian torsion or ectopic pregnancy requires urgent medical evaluation.
